Going Modern at the 2016 Toronto National Home Show

The company, known as craftsmen of paint and paper, also showed their new wall coverings. While the 80’s may have given wallpaper a bad name thanks to cringeworthy designs and cheesy borders, today’s wallpaper is more about texture and artisanship. Farrow and Ball’s papers are printed with their own paints, which makes matching and coordinating a breeze.

This year at the Toronto National Home Show we’re showcasing our modern Urban Studio, which has quickly become one of our most popular and best-selling modern building kit designs. From graffiti works to your own children’s art, anything can be featured on the metal doors. Ontario Wood’s display included these stunning wooden chandeliers, rendered in a number of types of wood. The branch shapes — and the great number in each fixture — make for a stunning piece.IDS 2016 had plenty of lighting options to see — from hand-crafted wooden versions to shiny, modern lighting fixtures.

Like a lightening bolt, this wall light from Hollis + Morris can also be hung in chandelier fashion over a table. Tenzo, which also showed a variety of rainfall and LED light shower heads had these modern and colorful faucet control panels. You Won’t Believe Your Eyes - "You Won't Believe Your Eyes" is an apt description for the work of Hugo Diego. To say that it is looks like real wood, concrete or metal is an understatement. Upcountry setting - Rustic but chic is the only way to describe this setting from UpCountry. Northern Plank’s best selling floors - This herringbone design in a lighter wood is one of Northern Plank's best selling floors.

Rustic but chic is the only way to describe this setting from UpCountry. The mix of lighting fixtures and upholstered chair with a leather cushion and hide pillow work well together. One-upping a traditional design, Kath’s bright turquoise gives the rug into an edgy, modern feel that would still work with traditional home decor. In a trend that doesn’t seem to be going away, the branch style light was shown by Lightmaker Studio. Available in brass and copper, the tree-like structure is fully customizable.

The “Future Dream Home,” built by Michael Upshall, was a 4,600 sq. Ft. home with all the bells and whistles of modern technology, blended with sustainable living design in ultimate luxury, style and space. Speaking of home comfort, no home is complete without the kitchen. The modern kitchen often doubles as a dining room and even moonlights as a family room where we entertain our guests. That’s why this year’s show will showcase the Eat and Entertain Kitchen, presented by Sears. This feature includes live intimate demonstrations from culinary experts cooking with the latest appliances.

The National Home Show is co-located with Canada Blooms so I had a chance to visit both shows. We received so much positive feedback on this design from our customers that we had to build our own to showcase to the world. While the photo above is a 7′ x 12′ size, we opted to showcase an 8′ x 12′ at the Home Show to show just a bit more space. Remember – anyone can customize our sheds and garages, not just us! The coolest thing about our products is the virtually endless customization available; we will build exactly what you’re looking for and tailor our designs to be functional and beautiful in your yard. Paneled with a new product from Utile - This may look like your average tiled shower, but it's actually paneled with a new product from Utile. Whether you were looking for a simple outdoor space to a statement garden you wish to showcase, the ideas were numerous. Support for this deck is built out of pressure-treated wood, and decking is make out of Deckorators composite. It’s a beautiful deck which I’m sure many will enjoy throughout the Home Show. Come find new and creative ways to maximize your space and get the best out of your home.

Created using a 3-D printer, DXV’s three prototype designs are like concept cars — expensive and limited edition. The International Design Show Toronto 2016 was a lively showcase of products, designs and ideas with a Canadian flavor. Dominated by bathrooms, kitchen and flooring, the show also included a wide variety of independent creators who presented a beautiful range of home furnishings and accessories. At Summerwood we’re fortunate to work with customers who use our products in unique, exciting, and sometimes even inspiring ways.

Kino Guerin Knoted Shelves - Kino Guerin is known as a master of bending wood. The artist's spent 12 years researching and experimenting with vacuum press lamination. His work "has allowed him to push the limits of the process in a uniquely fluid way. With each furniture design, Kino Guerin creates an airiness and lightness, a piece of functional sculpture," writes Artful Home. The National Home Show, North America’s largest home and garden show that takes place at the Enercare Centre, once again did not disappoint.

Learn the hands-on skills you need to complete DIY projects alongside the experts with a visit to the DIY Centre. Spent the day building this display at the National Home Show with two of my talented colleagues, who are not only great carpenters, but good friends. The number fluctuates from year to year based on weather & competitive events. This year, the aisles were busy with over 30,000 visitors ready to shop, find ideas & get advice from more than 300 of Toronto’s finest retailers. This Sonnet bathtub from Fleurco makes the most of space by adding small shelving area set into the side of the bathtub. This very different product is made of hundreds of squares mounted on a flexible panel that can be installed flat or bend around curved shapes.

Outdoor furniture from Andrew Richard Designs - This interesting chair was part of the outdoor furnishing display by Andrew Richard Designs. This exhibit demonstrated how easy it is to seamlessly integrate technology into our home, and it seems safe to say that we can expect the smart home to become even more connected in the years to come. Whether your style is living large or small, there were vendors, ideas and demonstrations for all.
